Vinton Middle Library was established in 1958.  It was known as Vinton Negro High School Library.  The librarian was Mrs. Ivie May Wilrey Washington.  She served as the librarian until 1970. The library served grades 1-12 and had a very limited collection.  Miss Bobbie Lebouef became the librarian in the fall of 1970.  She served as the librarian until she retired in 1991.  In the fall of 1991 Peggy Paige was named librarian.

Desegregation occurred in the late 60's and in the fall of 1969 the school was changed to a junior high and was renamed Vinton Northside Junior High School .  In the 1980's the school was changed to a middle school and was renamed to Vinton Northside Middle School.  In the mid 90's the school was renamed Vinton Middle School.

The collection has grown to a total of 6300 books. The library is automated and has 7 patron stations.  The library is here to serve Vinton Middle students, faculty, and community
