Let's Get Started!

  • 1. List all the words connected to what you want to know,
        including synonyms.
Some key words will be to general, like Sports,
when you are looking for Baseball players, and it will take you a long time
         to find your subject.
Some key words may be too specific, like dorsal fins, when you are
looking for how whales move through water.
Some key words may be fine, but just not the ones used by a particular
index.  For instance, games may be under recreation or in the Ss
         under Sports and games.
  • 2. Encyclopedias are wonderful for giving an overview of your subject
to show where it fit in the bigger picture.
To use an Encyclopedia database you should follow these steps.
         Click on the Encyclopedia database
Type a subject's name (last name first)
Leave out beginning articles, like A, An, and The.
  • 3. Reading and overview article will give you some other useful terms
to use as key words for further searching.
